Oct 10, 2017 | Headline News

Friday is the deadline for entries to be made for the 2017 Missouri Day Festival Parade.
“Salute to Education” is the theme for this year’s parade. Entries are being taken online by visiting the Trenton Chamber of Commerce website at www.trentonmochamber.com and pressing on the Missouri Day Festival tab. Persons can also contact a Trenton Rotarian, who will put persons in contact with a parade committee member that can assist them.
The parade is set to roll at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Trenton Rotary Club organizes the event, which lines up at the intersection of Crowder Road and Main Street and travels the traditional festival route down Main Street to Ninth Street, then east on Ninth Street and back to the festival grounds. There are 31 bands scheduled to be part of the parade, with several leaving the route at Normal Street to participate in auxiliary competitions at Trenton High School.
Judging will take place during the parade, with monetary prizes being awarded in nine categories. The overall winner – the Spirit of Missouri Day – will receive a $200 cash prize while $100 will be awarded to the second-place winner. Additional cash prizes of $100 will be awarded to the best organizational entry, best business entry, best youth entry and best religious entry and $50 cash prizes to the best equestrian entry, best car or truck pre-1960, best car or truck post-1960 and best tractor entry. Other categories in the tractor competition will receive plaques and include recognition as the oldest tractor, best original tractor, best restored tractor and the tractor traveling the farthest distance for the parade.
The Missouri Day Festival kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 19 with a soup supper and opening ceremonies at the First Baptist Church. Events are also planned on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-22.
