The Bulldogs scored once in each quarter, with all four scores coming on plays of 50 yards or more. Ian Elbert got Trenton on the board with a 55-yard run in the first quarter and Jarek Habelitz scored on a 50-yard run in the second quarter. Both touchdowns were followed by successful two-point conversion attempts, with Tyler Siemer getting the two after the first score and Kaden Owen doing the job on the second.
The second half opened with a 68-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Habelitz. Elbert ran in the two to make the score 24-0. In the fourth quarter, Elbert gave Trenton its longest score of the night with an 82-yard touchdown run. Siemer ran in the two, pushing Trenton’s score to 31 points.
“The boys had a very good team victory against Polo,” Trenton head coach Jon Guthrie said. “Our scout team gave us a great look this week and worked our first string guys very hard. Ian Elbert and Jarek Habelitz had great games, each scoring twice. The offensive line also did a very good job executing our counter and sweep plays.”
Elbert finished the night with 137 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Habelitz added 57 yards on the ground and Siemer rushed for 28 yards.
Leading the defense was Trevor Murphy, who had seven tackles, including a key sack on fourth down in the second quarter with Trenton leading just 8-0. Caleb Johnson added five tackles.
The middle school Bulldogs moved to 2-3 on the season with the win. Trenton will close out the year next Monday, traveling to Maysville to face the Wolverines. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
