Community cleanup was the focus of two activities held in Trenton over the weekend. Serve Trenton volunteers participated in several projects on Saturday and Sunday, including scraping paint from a house in preparation for new paint. Volunteers with the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District Region B collected paint and other items during a residential waste collection event on Saturday. According to coordinator Ann Hamilton, 72 residents took part in the collection day, which saw 17 computer systems, six copiers and five microwaves collected along with nine television sets, miscellaneous items such as phones and printers, 37 passenger tires with an approximate weight of 1,110 pounds of waste tires, 39 appliances, 200 pounds of scrap metal and household waste, including 45 gallons of oil based paint, 180 gallons of latex paint and 30 gallons of varnish and stain. Also collected were 35 gallons of used motor oil, approximately 580 pounds of aerosols, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaners, roofing tar and spackling.
