The Trenton High School girls tennis team had been off for nearly a week when it stepped on its home court on Tuesday against St. Joseph-Lafayette.
You would have never known that was the case.
Trenton shut out Lafayette 9-0, marking the fourth time this year the Bulldogs have won a dual without dropping a single match.
Action began with doubles play and Trenton asserted its dominance right off the bat. Claire Utley and Lauren Dolan combined for an 8-0 victory and Samantha Mihalovich and Maddie Searcy and Emma Gilham and Elle Neal followed suit, picking up perfect wins.
Singles play was no different as Trenton took all six matches. Lafayette didn’t even manage a point in the dual as Trenton took all of the singles matches by 8-0 scores as well. Utley, Dolan, Mihalovich, Searcy, Gilham and Neal all won without allowing their opponents to flip the score placard.
“The girls played solid tennis tonight,” Trenton coach Bobbie Hainey said. “It is always exciting to have such a strong win at home.”
No junior varsity matches were played.
Trenton moved to 8-1 overall on the season with the victory. The Bulldogs will return to the court on Thursday, traveling to take on Chillicothe in a road dual. Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Trenton defeated Chillicothe 6-3 at home back on Aug. 28.
