Sep 6, 2017 | Softball, Sports & Recreation

After starting the season on a five-game slide, the Grundy R-5 High School softball team has won two-straight games to improve to 2-5 overall. Grundy defeated Green City on Friday in a home game held in Newtown, 17-8, and then traveled to Winston, where they picked up an 18-4 victory.
Makenzy Brown was a run producer in both games for the Panthers, driving in three runs against Green City and two more against Winston. Zoe Littleton had three RBIs against Green City also and stole a team-high seven bases against Winston. Grundy also got five steals from Emma Baxter against Green City and Morgan Axtell and Aubrey Gann each had an RBI and four steals against Green City.
The win over Green City marked the first time the Panthers picked up a victory over the Gophers since the two teams became regulars on each other’s scheduled four years ago.
The Panthers will play host to North Harrison on Thursday in Galt. The first pitch for the HDC Conference showdown is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
