Lunch prices were set by the Newtown-Harris Board of Education during its meeting on Monday night.
According to information provided by Superintendent Dr. Kim Johnson, lunch prices will be 10 cents higher during the 2017-18 school year. Elementary prices will be $1.40 for breakfast and $2.05 for lunch while prices at the high school will be $1.50 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch.
The board approved the list of daily route drivers, who include Sandy Busick, Ron Hall and Linda Hague, regular routes; and Jerry Kiger, Danny Busick and Tim Tucker, substitutes. Also approved was the Missouri Education Evaluation Model, which will be used for all certified staff and the principal. The Missouri Education Consultants Model will be used for the superintendent evaluation.
Approval was given to the Parents as Teacher Program, faculty, student and staff handbooks and the Annual Secretary of the Board Report. Patty Stark was approved as the district’s special education consultant and Staci Freeman was approved as the Migratory and ESL coordinator.
Dr. Johnson reported that the Conrad and Higgins auditing firm has completed the yearly audit, which indicates the district being financially stable with an unrestricted fund balance 30.73 percent. A final report will be made in October.
Professional development days in the district for staff will be Aug. 21 and 22, with the district open house being from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21. The first day of classes will be on Aug. 23.
Dr. Johnson and principal Dustin Freeman attended several conferences over the summer as did several school personnel. All staff attended a CPR/first aid training session Aug. 8. Girls softball and boys baseball practices have started at Grundy R-5, with whom the district will be co-oping this fall. The district will also co-op with R-5 for junior high basketball.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11.
Princeton R-5
The Princeton R-5 Board of Education heard a construction update and took action on personnel during a recent special meeting.
Superintendent Jerry Girdner reported that a pre-bid conference was held with six general contractors represented at the meting along with several sub-contractors. Girdner said the meeting provided potential contractors an opportunity to tour the site and ask questions of the architects and school officials regarding building plans. Jeremy Proctor from the architectural firm Ellison & Auxier said he was pleased with the turnout for the meeting and is optimistic about a competitive bidding environment for the project.
The board will be approving the general contractor for the district building project at its Aug. 21 meeting.
Girdner also reported that current excavation work is on schedule.
Following an executive session, the board hired Anna DeMoss as a part-time food cashier for the 2017-18 school year.
The board is scheduled to meet in regular session on Monday, Aug. 21.
