People will have the opportunity to view the solar eclipse on Aug. 21 at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The total eclipse will begin at Swan Lake at 1:10 p.m. and last for one minute and 26 seconds.
Swan Lake is not hosting any special events during the eclipse, but the visitor’s center will be open from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and an open field that can be accessed from the visitor’s center will provide excellent viewing of the eclipse. Swan Lake will not have any solar eclipse glasses so individuals are encouraged to bring their own to safely view the eclipse.
For more information, persons may contact the refuge at 660-856-3323, ext. 13. The Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located one mile south of Sumner and managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
