North Central Missouri College is the recipient of a five-year grant that will allow the college to continue to provide services under the Federal TRiO Upward Bound program.
This $1 million grant is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. The funding assists qualifying high school students to prepare and enter postsecondary education. Upward Bound has been on the NCMC campus for 18 years, and this funding will allow services to continue in the area.
The Upward Bound program helps first-generation, income eligible, and those with a high academic need succeed in high school and continue to college enrollment with successful completion. The objectives of the program are to improve GPA, improve end of course exam scores, complete a rigorous high school program of study and enroll and complete a postsecondary education.
“This funding will allow us to continue to serve our current students and to assist new participants in the process of earning a college degree,” TRiO Director Marcie Cutsinger said. “We are excited the opportunity continues to help our area students succeed.”
NCMC Upward Bound serves students from Trenton, Jamesport, Hamilton, Gallatin, Chillicothe and Galt school districts.
