Veterans were recognized and power chairs presented to disabled veterans during a program on Saturday at the Ketcham Community Center. Members of AMVETS Post 181 of Kansas City brought power chairs to eight area veterans, including five in Trenton. The AMVETS organization refurbishes the chairs, which are then given to those veterans in need. In addition to the chairs, a lift chair was presented to a veteran at Lock Springs, courtesy of a donation made by a Milan family for that individual. VFW Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt, who was the master of ceremonies, said three power chairs, along with walkers and canes, have been donated since Saturday’s program and persons wanting to make a donation can do so by contacting him at 359-2078. In addition to the chair presentation, several area Vietnam veterans received pins in recognition of their military service. Seventh District State Rep. Rusty Black addressed the group along with North Central Missouri College President Dr. Lenny Klaver. Members of the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post 919 of Trenton presented the colors and Pastor Steve Dennis gave a message and prayer.
