Collister, a North Central Missouri College product, got the start for the Chillicothe Mudcats, who returned to Trenton for a fifth-straight season, playing host to the Cassville Arrows in a non-MINK League game. He worked five frames for the Mudcats, helping the team pick up a 4-2 victory over the Arrows, the fifth in a row for the Chillicothe-based team.
The start on his collegiate home field was the first of the season for Collister, who has previously worked two relief appearances for the Mudcats. The Pirate pitcher was efficient from the onset, retiring Cassville in order in each of the first three innings. He would get into trouble in the fourth, allowing a pair of runs that put Chillicothe in a 2-0 hole at the time. But after his team tied the game in the home half of the inning, Collister bounced back shutting Cassville down in the fifth.
That would be all the farther Collister would go, finishing his night with five innings worked. He struck out eight, needing 76 pitches to navigate the five frames.
Devonte Washington drove in two runs for Chillicothe and Bryce Bisenius tallied three hits including a solo home run as the Mudcats sent the Trenton fans home happy with the 4-2 victory.
After Chillicothe’s 2-2 start to the season, the current five -game win streak has vaulted the Mudcats to 7-2 overall.
Chillicothe sits at 4-2 in MINK League play, placing the Mudcats second in the league’s North Division behind only the St. Joseph Mustangs (9-3, 6-3 MINK).
The Mudcats will get back to MINK League play following tonight’s third and final meeting with Cassville, to be played at Shaffer Park in Chillicothe at 7:05.
Chillicothe travels to face the Clarinda A’s in a MINK League contest on Wednesday night for a game beginning at 7 o’clock.
