Bertha Mae Coon, a 78-year-old resident of Milan, died at her home on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
The family will gather from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the home of her sister, Betty Yardley. A celebration of life will be held at that time with Danah Fowler officiating.
An inurnment will be at the Shatto Cemetery at a later date. Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Coon was born on Oct. 20, 1938 in Harris, the daughter of Jack and Laura Hines Munday. She was raised in Harris and attended the Newtown school. She was married on Sept. 4, 1954 to Herman Dean Coon, who preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1992.
After her husband was discharged from the service, the couple moved to Chicago, IL, where they both were employed with Mars Candy Company. They returned to Milan in 1968. She started working for Con Agra Foods and retired in 2001 after 32 years of service.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching her hummingbird feeders, working with her chickens, doing word puzzles and listening to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mrs. Coon is survived by one son, Jerry Coon of Milan; nine grandchildren, Rosemary Coon, Kathy Coon, Jesse Coon, Larry Coon, Karen Coon, Aaron Coon, Jonathan Coon, Matt Coon and Megan Coon; eight great-grandchildren, Regan Coon, Jace Wilson, Pyper Wilson, Collin Weaver, Izzy Strain, Denver Coon, Jacob Coon and Arlington Moore; two brothers, Bernie Munday and Bobby Munday, both of Trenton; one sister; Betty Yardley of Milan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gary Dean Coon and Victor Noel Coon; one grandson, Travis Coon; and two brothers, Carl Hines and Billy Munday.
