Trenton Boys Second At Lawson, Girls Fifth

The Trenton High School boys track team is finding its stride as the season enters the home stretch. Just three days after winning the team title at the Brookfield Relays, the Bulldogs scored a second-place finish in a 10-school field at the Nick Sloop Invitational at Lawson on Monday.
The Bulldogs tallied 102 points, second only to host-school Lawson, which won the meet with 134 points. Richmond rounded out the top three with 85 points.
The Bulldogs won three gold medals in Lawson. Daniel Rodriguez was first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:23.75 and Zane Rottman won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:56.83. Both Rottman and Rodriguez won those respective events the day before in Brookfield as well.
Trenton’s other gold medal Monday came from the 4×100-meter relay team of Wyatt Whittle, Matthew Sibbit, Brian Ewing and Austin Burkeybile, which crossed the line first with a time of 45.22. Like Rottman and Rodriguez, the 4×100 team was first in Brookfield on Friday as well.
Girls Place Fifth
Trenton’s girls squad was fifth at the Nick Sloop Invitational, winning two events. Whitley Richman gave Trenton a gold medal early in the day with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-1 to take the title. Trenton then won gold in the final event of the relays, placing first in the 4×400-meter relay. Tenna Roberts, Shayla Woodside, McKayla Blackburn and Lexi Whitaker combined to win the event with a time of 4:24.78.
Lawson was first in the girls team standings as well with 104 points. Richmond took second with 86 points and Plattsburg rounded out the top three with 81.
Trenton’s track teams will be at the LeBlond Relays in St. Joseph today at 2:30.
