The Trenton High School boys tennis team picked up another dual victory on Friday, traveling to and defeating Carrollton. The Bulldogs dominated the dual for the most part, picking up a 7-2 victory.
Nick Shields, Jacob Davis and Kade Ockenfels all picked up singles wins with relative ease to get Trenton out to an early lead. Shields and Davis each picked up 8-1 wins and Ockenfels won by an 8-2 mark.
Carrollton would battle back with wins at four and five as Wyatt Neal lost 8-2 and Creed Houghton lost 8-6. Trenton would dominate from there on, however, as Gabe Swann closed singles play with an 8-1 win and the Bulldogs swept doubles action.
Shields and Davis combined for an 8-5 win and Ockenfels and Houghton teamed up for an 8-6 victory. Swann and Neal won the final doubles match of the day, 8-0.
The dual victory was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs, who moved to 4-1 overall with the win.
“This was a good win for us against a very much improved Carrollton team,” Trenton Coach Dave Sager said. “The team handled the pressure of being on the road again this week very well. A big part of the team’s success today was that we didn’t do very many double faults in our service games and didn’t give away points in the process. Being able to win points off long rallys has really been beneficial as well.
“The team is always improving with each match and they are anxious to play again.”
In junior varsity action, Trenton won two of three matches played. Colten Hamilton fell 6-4 in singles action, but Jeremy Elliott picked up a 6-2 singles win. Elliott and Weston Otto combined for a 6-3 victory in the only JV doubles match played.
Trenton’s tennis team will be back on the court today, playing host to Kirksville at the THS tennis courts. First serves are set for 4 o’clock.
