Gary Meservey, a 65-year-old Trenton resident, died on Friday morning, April 21, 2017 at the Mosaic Life Care Center in St Joseph.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, April 24, 2017) at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.
Mr. Meservey was born on Nov. 1, 1951 the son of Delbert and Iola Fern Oldaker Meservey. He lived the first 12 years of his life on a farm east of Trenton, where he learned to love the outdoors. He also began his lifelong dedication to working and providing for the ones he loved. He started his schooling in a one room school close to the farm, and then when it closed, he attended Pleasant View R-6. He graduated from the newly-built Trenton High School in 1969.
He met his future wife, Vicki after an introduction by a good friend. Gary and Vicki were married on June 29, 1974 at Grundy Center United Methodist Church, a church Vicki attended and where Gary had attended Bible school as a child.
Gary worked at Carnation/Trenton Foods for a few years, but his longing to see new places and meet new people led him to his new career as an over the road truck driver. He always took pride in his job and equipment and made many lasting friendships across the country. He drove a truck for 33 years and estimated one time that he had driven over 3 million miles. After his retirement, he continued to keep busy. He ran a road maintainer, hauled gravel and worked part time for Rapid Removal. It was not in his nature to just sit around and quit.
Gary was happiest when he could help someone. Many of his hours were spent helping friends and family. His pride and joy were his children, Nathan and Alissa. Even though his job kept him away from home, he loved and supported them any way he could.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki of the home; a son Nathan Meservey of Trenton; a daughter, Alissa Meservey of Sedalia; a sister, Carol Norris of Trenton; three brothers, Lawrence Meservey (Betty) of Independence, Charles Meservey (Judy) of Pierston, IN and Russell Meservey of Trenton; brothers-in-law, Steve (Sharon) Gass from Colorado and Robert Gass from California; a sister-in-law, Glenda (Gary) Sautter from Florida; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Velma Hull.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Green Hills Animal Shelter, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary, PO Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
