The North Central Missouri College baseball team didn’t back down on Thursday with fifth-ranked Crowder College coming to town. After dropping game one of the doubleheader 5-2, the Pirates regrouped and shocked the nationally-ranked visitors with a 5-1 victory in game two.
Trae Brownell and Blake Collister combined to limit Crowder to just one run in game two. Brownell went six innings, allowing just one run on one hit, a home run, and two walks. He struck out four in the game. Collister came on in the seventh and worked three frames, allowing no runs or hits on one walk while striking out two.
Brendly Martina led the Pirates at the plate with two hits, one a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Derek Hussey, Jared Fry and Dennis Pogue also drove in runs in the win.
In game one, Kylan Easley took the loss on the hill, allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two in five and two-thirds innings pitched. Quinsly Balentien had two hits, a home run and two RBIs in the loss.
NCMC’s record on the season moved to 19-22 overall with the split. NCMC travels to Crowder for two games on Saturday.
