Residents of Springfield and Chillicothe were killed in two separate area accidents investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Monday.
An infant, Rowan Nichols of Springfield, was pronounced dead at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe on Monday afternoon following an accident on Highway 65, three miles south of Chillicothe. He was the passenger in an SUV, driven by the baby’s father, Warren Nichols, 26, which had stopped in a Missouri Department of Transportation work zone. A van driven by Benjamin Davis, 23, of Chillicothe, was also southbound and struck the rear of the SUV. Nichols and his wife, Amanda Nichols, 27, along with Davis, were taken to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.
Both vehicles were demolished. The accident was investigated by Trooper J.C. Acree, assisted by Sgt. J.J. Rongey and the Livingston County Sheriff’s office.
The second accident occurred in Sullivan County on Highway 139, three miles south of Osgood.
The patrol said a vehicle, driven by Cameron Lollar, 25, of Chillicothe, was southbound and traveled off the west side of the road. As the driver attempted to overcorrect, the vehicle then went off the east side of the road, overturning and ejecting the driver. Lollar was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was demolished. The accident was investigated by Sgt. Grissom, assisted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Galt Fire Department.
