Elgevia D. Russell, a 97-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Saturday morning, April 1, 2017 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton, with Rev. Ron Ratliff officiating.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 o’clock tonight (Monday, April 3, 2017) at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Russell was born on May 6, 1919 in Modena, the daughter of John Andrew and Bonnie Orpha Dowler Ritter. She attended Mercer County schools. She was a beautician for over 35 years before retiring.
She was a member of Tenth Street Baptist Church in Trenton.
She was married to Ivan Arney. She was then married on June 21, 1970 at Unionville to Joel Russell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2002.
Her survivors include two sons, Bill Arney and his wife, Imogene of Trenton and Richard Arney and his wife, Faye of Columbia; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one step-son, Martin Russell of Blue Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters. Marie Brown and Esta Betz, two brothers, Max Ritter and Lester Ritter; one granddaughter; and one grandson.
