The North Central Missouri College baseball team scored a road sweep of Three Rivers Community College over the weekend in Region 16 play in Poplar Bluff. The Pirates took both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, winning 7-5 and 8-5 before completing the four-game sweep on Sunday with wins of 5-0 and 10-7.
Game one on Saturday was highlighted by a three-run blast off the bat of Terrance Goeloe to cap a five-run first inning. Kylan Easley was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings and allowing five runs, three earned, while striking out two and walking one. Andrew Faustlin recorded a two-inning save, throwing the sixth and seventh frames without allowing a run.
Connor Quick was 2-for-2 at the plate with a run and two RBIs and Enrique Madera was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
In game two, Wade Phillips fired six innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out one. Bo McSpadden threw the final two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.
At the plate, Quinsly Balentien doubled, drove in two runs, stole a base and scored twice to lead North Central. Quick had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI.
In Sunday’s opener, NCMC got a complete game shutout from Blake Collister, who blanked Three Rivers over seven frames and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out one. Balentien had a triple and two RBIs offensively and Madera drove in two as well.
The series finale was a contrast to game three as the Pirates leaned on their offense. North Central collected 10 runs on 12 hits to outlast Three Rivers. Quick was three-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI and Curtis Mitchell drove in three runs with a double.
After the sweep, the Pirates now sit at 5-3 on the season and 4-0 in Region 16 play. North Central will host its first home game of the season on Thursday, taking on St. Louis Community College at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton. Game one is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
