Linn County Girls 52, Grundy R-5 Girls 46
The Grundy R-5 girls reached the end of the line on Wednesday night, dropping a match-up with Green City in the semifinals of the Class 1, District 11 Tournament in Green City. The second-seeded Panthers fell behind 27-19 in the first half, struggling with Linn County’s pressure defense. The Grundy girls would never lead, falling to the three seed 52-46.
“Linn County played good defense and pressed the entire game,” Grundy Head Coach Leetta Fordyce said. “Our girls did not handle the pressure.”
Matana Munday led the Panthers (16-11) with 15 points and Zoe Littleton added 10 points, six steals and three assists. Mady Williams led the Panthers in rebounds with 10.

Mercer Boys 69, North Harrison Boys 33
For a brief moment, the North Harrison Shamrocks hung with the top-seeded team in the Class 1, District 11 Tournament – the Mercer Cardinals. That wouldn’t last, though. The two teams were tied at 22-22 midway through the second quarter, but the Cardinals took off from that point. Mercer would outscore the Shamrocks 47-11 the rest of the way, turning the competitive game into a rout.
Cash Hartley led the Cardinals (22-5) with 20 points and Bryer Noe added 19. Grey Porter and Hunter Shipley finished with 10 points each.
The Mercer boys will now travel back to Eagleville on Friday night, taking on Worth County for the district title. Tip time between the Cardinals and Tigers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Plattsburg Boys 68, Princeton Boys 65

The Princeton boys saw their season come to a close in the first round of the Class 2, District 16 Tournament on Tuesday night at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett. The Tigers trailed after a quarter, but led 36-34 at halftime and 50-48 after three quarters. Plattsburg was able to steal the game in the final frame, however, despite hitting just four of nine free-throw attempts over the last eight minutes.
Blaine Millburn led the Tigers (12-13) with 20 points and Calvin Berwanger added 18. Andrew Smith finished with 14 points and Preston Thomas had eight.

Worth County Boys 56, Gilman City Boys 43

The Gilman City boys nearly knocked off the second-seeded team in the Class 1, District 14 Tournament on Monday night in Eagleville. After Worth County opened the game with a 17-9 run, Gilman battled back, using a 16-6 second-quarter run to take a two-point lead at halftime. Worth County would respond, however, outscoring the Hawks in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the first round win.
Cornelius Peery led the Hawks (9-17) with 17 points, four steals and two assists. Mitchell Sievering had 10 points, four steals and five assists and Kaleb Bjornlie finished with seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
