The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Tuesday evening, taking action to extend the superintendent’s contract.
According to information provided by Superintendent Kim Johnson, the board held an executive session, after which her contract was extended through the 2018-2019 school year.
Board members heard reports on the preschool and kindergarten programs, with the instructors describing instructional strategies that are developmentally appropriate for their respective classrooms. Students activities shared included the recent sledding party in preschool and vocabulary development in kindergarten.
Board members approved trips for the FFA, third to sixth grade and seniors and discussed the possible 3 to 5 percent increase in health insurance premiums for the 2017-2018 school year. The board approved the 2017-2018 school calendar as well as policies and regulations as provided by the Missouri Consultants for Education. The board also voted to purchase fence panels to go around the generator behind the school.
Upcoming events were announced, including the annual basketball tournament, set for March 6-8 and FFA Week, Feb. 18-25, with the FFA Community Breakfast set for 6:30 to 8 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 13.
