The Pirates had their problems pulling away from Graceland early as the Yellowjackets were hot from the outside, keeping themselves in the game with the three ball.
As Graceland cooled off from the outside, however, the Pirates began to pull away, eventually turning the game into a rout.
“This was not the most complete game we have put together all year, but I thought we did a much better job of sharing the ball and creating for others than we did in our last game,” Pirates’ Head Coach Jeremy Esry said. “We also showed some glimpses of putting together some good defensive stretches.”
Major Finley led NCMC in the win, scoring 20 points. Teyonte Jenkins followed with 13 and Jalen Gant added 13 points as well. Demetrius Houston, Dee Scruggs, MJ Johnson and Joshuah Goss all added nine points each in the win, giving the Pirates a very balanced scoring attack.
With the win, the Pirates moved to 9-5 overall on the season.
The North Central women will be in action tonight, traveling to Nevada to take on Cottey College in a women’s-only Region 16 tilt.
Both NCMC squads will be in action Saturday, playing host to Penn Valley in a Region 16 doubleheader at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Action tips off with the women’s game at 1 p.m. and the men will follow at 3 o’clock.
“We know that Saturday we are going to have to put it all together when we face a really good Penn Valley team,” Esry said.
