East Harrison Girls 46, Gilman City Girls 43
The Gilman City girls kept it close, but ultimately couldn’t pull off a minor upset of East Harrison in the four-five seed match-up at the Gilman City Tournament on Monday night. The Gilman girls fell behind 12-8 inthe opening frame, but came back with a 17-10 run in the second to go into the locker room up three points. East Harrison answered with a 16-6 third-quarter run and Gilman’s attempt at a rally came up just short in the fourth.
Gilman was playing with just five players and played a majority of the fourth quarter with only four after losing one to fouls. Despite the disadvantage, Gilman City had two looks from beyond the arc with time winding down to tie the game, but couldn’t get either shot to fall.
Hailey Burrows led Gilman (4-11) with 32 points, four steals and eight rebounds. Megan Cottrell added 10 points, three steals and six rebounds.
The Gilman girls will be in consolation semifinal action on Wednesday night in their home gym. Tip off for that contest is set for 7 o’clock.
