Gilman City Girls 40, Winston Girls 37
The Gilman City girls fell behind Winston 9-5 in the opening frame on Thursday night at home and would trail all the way until the fourth quarter. Winston pushed the lead to nine points by halftime and that margin remained entering the final frame. In the fourth, however, Gilman City rallied on their home court, surging ahead of the Redbirds for a 40-37 win. Gilman outscored the visitors 16-4 over the game’s final eight minutes.
Hailey Burrows led the Gilman girls (4-9, 2-1 HDC) with 23 points, five rebounds and four steals. Megan Cottrell added 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Winston Boys 71, Gilman City Boys 21
The Gilman City boys were unable to keep pace with Winston, ranked first in the state at Class 1 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. The Hawks fell behind 25-3 in the first quarter and never recovered, going on to lose by 50 points.
Cornelius Peery had seven points, five rebounds and three steals to pace the Hawks (3-10, 1-2 HDC).
Gilman City’s teams will be at home for a second-straight night, playing host to North Harrison tonight. It will be homecoming night for the Hawks as they welcome the Shamrocks. Action tips off with the girls’ contest at 6 o’clock.
