A memorial service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Legacy Golf Course in Granite City, with military rites conducted by the United States Army at 2 p.m.
Mr. Whitt was born on October 29, 1936 in Daviess County, the son of the late Richard and Mary Booram Whitt. He was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country.
On April 4, 1959, Elmer married Anita Thompson, the love of his life, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. He retired from Nestle Corporation in Granite City, IL as a painter after many years of dedicated service. After retirement, Elmer and Anita moved to Trenton, his hometown. After many years in Trenton, they moved back to Granite City, IL to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Anita Whitt of Granite City; loving children, Sheila Ryan and Kevin (Cindy) Whitt, both of Granite City; proud grandfather to Kristen Ryan, Taylor (Joey Wasser) Ryan and Jennifer Mell; proud great-grandfather to one great-grandson; dear siblings, Rocetia (Eugene) Hutson of Trenton, Barbara Wynne of Brimson and Victor (Cheryl) Whitt of Gilman City; special niece, Dawn (Adam Briggs) McCormick; a special great-niece, Bailey McCormick; beloved puppy, Daisy; extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sonja Dale; two brothers, Gary and Richard Whitt; one nephew, Tracy Wynne and by his son-in-law, Bradley “Scott” Ryan.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society and donations will be accepted at the memorial gathering.
