Mary Pat Pettengill of Port Washington, WI died on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 at VITAS Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI, where she was freed of her struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Ms. Pettengill was born in Trenton on May 2, 1956, the daughter of Maurice and Joan Pettengill. The family relocated to Hartford, WI in the mid-1960s, and she graduated from Hartford Union High School. She worked most of her adult life as an airlines reservation agent and was a devoted retiree of Northwest Airlines. She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and in her 20s performed with the Bel Canto Chorus in Milwaukee, WI. She was a lover of music, travel, British humor, animals, nature and was an activist for the environment and peace.
She is survived by her mother, Betty “Joan” (Meeker) Strasburg of Belgium, WI; her father and step-mother, Maurice and Pat Pettengill of Milwaukee; her loving sister, Martha (Sandra Large) Pettengill of Port Washington; her cherished friend and family member Leesa Vickers (Mark) Wendt, who spent many hours lovingly helping and caring for Mary over the past year; and her step-siblings, Lynn (Steve) Schauwitzer, Gail (Jeff) Bruce, Jane (Ken Collins) Galien, Greg (Suzi) Scholtes, Clark (Susan) Strasburg and Craig (Nancy) Strasburg. She leaves behind her cherished cat, Jesse James, who will be well cared for. Mary will forever remain in the hearts and memories of all her family and extended family members and many caring friends.
There will be no service or funeral. In Spring 2017 her family will hold a celebration of life at one of her favorite places, a bluff in Port Washington overlooking Lake Michigan.
Memorials are suggested to GreenPeace USA.
