The Trenton junior varsity basketball teams are a combined five-for-five, each team remaining perfect on the young season with wins on the road over Putnam County on Monday night in Unionville. The Trenton girls picked up a 39-16 win to push their record to 3-0 on the season while the Trenton boys scored a 47-41 victory, moving to 2-0 on the year as a result.
Trenton Girls
For the Trenton girls, it was the third no-contest in as many games as the Bulldogs jumped to a 14-2 lead in the opening frame and never looked back. It was 24-10 at halftime and Trenton shut out Putnam in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 35-10. Trenton’s JV girls have yet to be scored on in the third quarter this season.
Saedee Jackson led Trenton with nine points, followed by Haley Kidd and Lexi Whitaker each with eight. McKayla Blackburn and Maci Henson each had six points and Kendall Crowley rounded out the Trenton effort with two points.
Trenton Boys
The Trenton boys also dominated early on, as they scored the first 12 points of the game and led 16-4 at the end of the opening quarter of play. Putnam would battle back in this one, however, using six three-point field goals in the second half to cut the Bulldog lead to a mere two points at 35-33 with three minutes remaining in the contest. Trenton responded, though, and went on a quick 9-0 run, eventually pulling out the six-point victory.
“We learned a lot from tonight’s game,” Trenton Coach Kameron Cool said. “We let them get back in it and then showed a lot of toughness by finishing the game off.”
Carson Radcliff was a huge spark for the Bulldogs, scoring a game high 22 points. Cole Schilling also reached double digits with 12 points.
Trenton’s JV boys will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 12, taking on Carrollton in a JV boys’ game that precedes a girls’-boys’ varsity doubleheader between the two schools at home in Trenton. The JV boys tip off at 5 p.m. to get the action started.
The next girls’-boys’ JV doubleheader will be on Thursday, Dec. 15 as the Trenton squads are at home, hosting the Princeton junior varsity. Tip off for the girls’ game is set for 6 o’clock that night.
