DNR Grants Permit For Swine CAFO In Grundy County

Nov 29, 2016 | Headline News

Trenton Farms RE, LLC has received a permit from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to construct a swine concentrated animal feeding operation in Grundy County.
DNR issued the permit following an appeals court ruling last week that denied a request from the company to overturn the Missouri Clean Water Commission’s ruling that Trenton Farms did not meet certain criteria to have a permit issued by DNR. The permit issued by DNR last week involves a second permit application that addressed the two concerns cited in rejection of the first permit. Those concerns involved protection of the CAFO in a 100-year flood in accordance with state law and whether or not Trenton Farms was a “continuing authority” as defined by law. In granting the permit, DNR said Trenton Farms had addressed both concerns.
A hearing on the second permit was held this past October in Trenton, addressing water quality issues. The farm, to be located on Route W, anticipates constructing a CAFO housing over 2,500 swine.
