Jim and Bev Whorton of Trenton and the Chub Lake Tree Farm near Carlton, MN, owned by the Whortons, are hosting the “Trees for Troops” national event that provides free, farm-grown Christmas trees to troops and military families in the U.S. and overseas. This is the ninth year for the Whortons and tree farm to host the event.
Thousands of trees are donated by American farm families, organizations and the public to this effort and FedEx delivers the trees to approximately 65 military bases. Dec. 3-4 has been designated as “Trees for Troops Weekend” and the Chub Lake Tree Farm will celebrate the event at that time, along with members of the local Cloquet, MN, National Guard unit as their “guests.”
Persons interested in participating in the event by making a tree donation can send a check made out to the Chub Lake Tree Farm with “Trees for Troops” noted in the memo portion. Cost for a tree is $30, with each tree tagged in the donors name and placed on a FedEx trailer for delivery. The check can be mailed to 1867 E. Chub Lake Road, Carlton, MN 55718.
