Duane “Red” Troester, a 68-year-old resident of Milan, died on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, north of Trenton.
A visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at the funeral home.
Mr. Troester was born on Dec. 2, 1947 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Kermit and Sylvia Denlinger Troester. He grew up in Dubuque and Trenton, then served in the United States Army during Vietnam, before moving to Milan. He owned and operated Park-A-Way for 30 years. After selling Park-A-Way, he worked at Ruschmeier Funeral Homes, was a substitute rural mail carrier and drove a school bus.
He was married on June 19, 1970 in Edinburg to Arlene Fitzpatrick Troester, who survives of the home.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #1000 and was a past post commander and adjutant of Post #228. He helped start the B.C. Archery Club and was a charter member of Milan Jaycees and Quails Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling tall stories and loved playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald Troester and his wife, Jennifer of Milan; a daughter, Christina Search and her husband, Kirk of Maryville; three grandsons, Nathan Troester, James Troester and Jacob Search; one granddaughter, Jaylee Search; five brothers, Albert Troester of Higginsville, Richard Troester and his wife, Frieda of Trenton, Robert Troester and his wife, Debbie of Spickard, John Troester of Malta Bend and George Troester of Kirksville; three sisters, Marie Campbell and her husband, Bob of Laredo, Lenora Mehrhoff of Trenton and Helen Harrington of Anacoco, LA; a brother-in-law, Gail Fitzpatrick of Boonville; and a sister-in-law, Darlene King of Whiting, IN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carolyn Troester and Sandra Davis; and a brother, Leonard Troester.
