9-27-barnett-ralph0001Ralph Barnett, a 97-year-old resident of Bettendorf, IA, passed away quietly on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 at his home.
A celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport, IA. Burial will be Davenport Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 at the funeral home.
Mr. Barnett was born on March 28, 1919 in Eldon, IA , the son of William Harl and Anna Mae Norris Barnett. He lived many years in Trenton and learned to work at an early age. He graduated from Trenton High School and from Bradley Polytechnical Institute in Peoria, IL.
He was married on June 16, 1944 in Brookfield to Mary Frances Peacher, who preceded him in death on July 1, 2011. They loved to listen to Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights.
He worked for Bendix, later Litton, making altimeters for rockets. He also worked for Walker’s Jewelry and Rice and Kraft Jewelers doing watch and jewelry repair. His retirement hobby was making wood toys and model planes from beautiful hard woods. He truly was a master craftsman with his woodworking.
Survivors include his four children, Randal (Lynne) Barnett and Sherry (Joe) Smahaj, all of Lowden, IA, Jim Barnett of Davenport and Shirley (Jerry) Strohm of Eldridge, IA; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer (Margaret) Barnett of Breckinridge; two sisters, Naomi (Raymond) Scott and Ethel (Harold) Booth, all of Trenton;and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and four brothers and four sisters.
