The National Weather Service has determined that the storm damage in Trenton on Monday evening was caused by straight-line winds.
According to Grundy County Emergency Management Director Glen Briggs, the storm came out of southern Iowa and struck Trenton, although at 7:35 p.m. the zone forecast for Grundy County showed a 0 percent chance of rain. The storm hit shortly after bring straight-line winds in the 60 to 80 mile per hour range as well as heavy rain totaling 1.04 inches and hail. The storm path showed the heaviest damage in a line following the railroad tracks from 26th Street to south of the city limits. Briggs said no injuries were reported in the storm but several structures were damaged, including Walden Apartments, GFG Agriservices, a residence on Ellison Street and Preferred Popcorn. Briggs said he knew of at least three vehicles that were struck by fallen trees. Customers of KCP&L and Trenton Municipal Utilities were also without power for a period of time.
