William R. “Dick” Hughes

William R. “Dick” Hughes, an 85- year-old resident of Weatherby Lake and former Trenton resident, died on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 1, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kansas City. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m.
A private family inurnment is planned.
Mr. Hughes was born on March 2, 1931, in Lincoln, the son of Richard and Jesse Hughes. After graduating high school early at the age of 16, he taught in a one-room school for two years prior to working his way through college at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Upon graduation, he joined the Kansas City accounting office of Arthur Andersen as an auditor. Several successful years later, he was offered the opportunity to become manager of Trenton Foods in Trenton, later advancing to president of Trenton Foods. The company was purchased first by Carnation Company and then Nestle. Mr. Hughes retired as the President of Trenton Foods, a division of Nestle, after over 35 years of service. He was a dedicated and supportive father and a moral compass to his family.
He is survived by a sister, Maxine Poague of Kansas City; three children, Paul Hughes of Seward, NE, Mary Linda Hughes of Gladstone and Mike (Amy) Hughes of Leawood, KS; three grandchildren, Jared, Adam and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Avalin and Myre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church music fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cremation Society of Kansas and Missouri in Kansas City.
