Spickard was recognized by TPD Sgt. Jeb Walker for his hard work and dedication to the community of Trenton, the police department and his peers. Spickard was nominated for his commitment to volunteerism by serving on numerous boards, committees, tournaments and organizations that help the youth within the Trenton community. His service above self is demonstrated through countless hours of volunteering and serving others within the community.
“Animal Control Officer Spickard has a not so glamorous job but always has a positive, can do attitude when it comes to any task at hand,” Chief Wright said. “For over 30 years he has been dedicated to making a better life for not only animals, but for the citizens of Trenton as well. His intense commitment to service of others demonstrates his dedication to making Trenton a safer and better place to live and raise a family. Animal Control Officer Spickard can often be found watching a ball game, rooting for one of his six grandkids or helping them show at a local or state livestock show on his little free time.”
The SIL Award is a peer nominated, award in which the recipient receives a “traveling trophy,” a chief’s letter of commendation and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
SIL is an acronym for Service, Integrity and Leadership, which is part of the Trenton Police Department’s creed and mission. Wright said that next month, Spickard will make a nomination for the award based on his observations of one of his peers who have went over and above in one of those areas. That peer will then receive the same accolades as Spickard did in September and will be responsible for the nomination for the next month.
Chief Wright encourages anyone who observes a Trenton police officer who goes over and above the call of duty to contact him so that the officer can receive recognition.
