“Welcome to the Jungle” is the theme for the 2016 Trenton High School Homecoming activities, scheduled for Sept. 12-16. Activities are being organized and sponsored by the THS Student Council.
Candidates for homecoming king and queen, all seniors, include Jeffery White, Luke Lewis, Austin Burkeybile, Mason Hooyman, Shayla Woodside and Brittany Wilson. Attendants are Avery Cooksey and Jayden Roeder, juniors; Matt Sibbit and Sarah Jordan, sophomores; and Mark Trump and Shawna Coplen, freshmen.
The king and queen will be named during a pep rally scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at C.F. Russell Stadium. The pep rally will include introduction of all fall sports teams, coaches, managers and cheerleaders. The event will immediately be followed by a bonfire, with colored poweder to be given out to be thrown at the end of the bonfire.
Each day of homecoming week will have a special designation built around the theme, with students encouraged to participate by dressing up for that day’s designation. Monday will be “Animals of the Jungle Day” while Tuesday will be “Tacky Tourist Day.” “Pokeman Day” is Wednesday, which will also include ice cream sundaes at lunch. Thursday will be “Decade Day” with seniors dressed in clothing of the 1950’s, juniors in the 1960’s, sophomores in the 1970’s and freshmen in the 1980’s. The final day, Friday, will be “Black Out Day” and will also include the parade, football game and dance. Prizes will be awarded daily for staff and teachers who dress up for school spirit. There will be an early-out on Friday for students to prepare for the parade, which begins at 2 p.m.
Friday night begins with pre-game activities at 6:30 p.m. and will include introduction of the homecoming queen and her attendants, who will be escorted by their fathers. The football game against Milan will be at 7 p.m., followed by the dance at the high school. Admission will be $5 per student and $10 per couple and is open to all THS high school students and their guests.
Other activities during the week include door decorating contest, with the winners to be announced on Friday, Sept. 16. Prizes will be awarded for the winning doors.
