Additional information from this weekend’s Trenton High School alumni activities has been announced.
Class of 1947
Members of the THS Class of 1947 met on Saturday at the Lakeview Restaurant.
Regards were given from class members unable to attend. Names of classmates who had passed away in the past year were discussed and Lovice Daniels Crawford gave the prayer in their memory. Pictures were taken and much visiting was done.
Those attending were Margaret Truitt Ferguson of Jameson; Barbara Shaw Vandevender of Spickard and her son, James, of Cameron; and Hazel Terry, Peggy Wales Tharp, Gordon and Betty Hamilton McCullough, Bob and Phyllis Peery Anderson and Charles and Lovice Daniels Crawford, all of Trenton.
The class will hold a meeting at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3 at Hardee’s.
Class of 1956
The THS Class of 1956 met on Saturday for a dinner at the Dockery Chapel Church. There were 45 present, which included 30 class members.
A memorial service was conducted for 46 deceased class members. Coleen Crawford Scott gave the prayer and Ron and Doris Jean Brown Tapscott read the names. Gold and black balloons were released for each one, including Larry Arnold, Carolyn Asman Yoss, Jack Boyd, Robert Brannam, Joel and Noel Breitenbucher, Robert Brinnen Nigh, Tom Brown, Daisy Chrisman May, Barry Clark, Dorothy Clark Gregornick, Billy Cooper, Donna Covey Gadberry, Gary Dunn, Clara Gannon Stalcup, Joetha Goodin Hamilton, Gordon Joiner, Carol Ann Krehbiel Judd, Arlene Long, Lucille Marley Shira, Eleanor Marrs Lynch, Vernon McClaskey, Dr. Phil McClure, Dale Moore, Bob Muff, Donna Overton Brown, Shirley Oyler Foster, John Renfro, Giniath Roberts, Carolyn Rumbley Clark, Gerald Shira, Gail Southers, Larry Stottlemyre, Shirley Stokes Fagan, Victor Swank, J.D. Class of 1952
Members of the THS Class of 1952 met for a meal on Saturday at the Lakeview Restaurant. There were 30 alumni and spouses attending, along with two guests.
Marilyn Whitacre called the meeting to order and gave the welcome. Paul Persell gave inspirational thoughts and a prayer.
After the meal, each member introduced themselves and shared a memory or anything of interest about themselves. Dr. Uhl Donovan shared some comical events and then talked about the teachers the class had. Class members also gave information about themselves and their families.
Classmates sending good wishes included Gloria Runge Speery, Carol McLaughlin Thomas, Rex Burress, Marilyn Kelso Chipps, Zora Belle Robertson Hundley, Ada May Ward Branham and Darlene Crow Hamsher.
Attending were Mary Ann Hughes Alle and son, David; Jerry Berlin and brother, Sharon; Kim and Dixie Ireland Brown; L.D. and Patrica Moore Daniels; Uhl and Nancy Donovan; George and Virginia Watkins Gumm; Ed Holt; Eugene and Rocetia Hutson; Charles King and Eileen Siebert; Harold and Judy Kost; Wilbur Mayberry; Keith and Joanne Riley Montgomery; Paul Persell; JoAnn Ellis Sawyer; Leon and Janet Spencer; Caroline Witten Stokes; Nancy Menefee Wade; Carl and Marilyn Gear Whitacre; and Delvin and Jennie Ray Wallace Wilford.
The class meets for breakfast the second Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Dino’s Diner. At the next meeting, on Sept. 8, plans for the 65th reunion will be discussed.
Class of 1966
The Trenton High School Class of 1966 celebrated its 50th class reunion over the weekend as a part of the annual THS Alumni activities.
Nearly 100 guests were in attendance including class members, spouses and former teachers. The Saturday night reunion was held in the Ketcham Community Center on the campus of North Central Missouri College.
Steve Maxey of Kansas City served as the Master of Ceremonies with Earl Gott of Anchorage, AK giving the invocation Following the catered meal, Maxey welcomed the group and each class member introduced themselves and spoke briefly about their current location, family and vocation. Bob Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT, who was the senior class president, introduced the visiting teachers including Garth Haer of Red Oak, IA, Scott Graham of Maryville, Dr. Don Claycomb of Linn, Shirley Curley of Olathe KS, Nelva Heath of Kearney and Robert Crow of Trenton. Johnson read letters from Gerald Frankenfeld of Washington, MO and Craig Campbell of Carthage. Each faculty member spoke briefly and introduced their guests. John Noe of Mercer recognized the military veterans of the Class of 1966.
Julia Blackmore Ashbrook of Chillicothe presented a video, prepared by Sue Trainer Arnold, Carol Moore Reger and herself, highlighting the past 50 years, including special events impacting the country, scenes of Trenton – then and now – and a tribute to the deceased classmates. In addition, music from the years supported the video which included many pictures of classmates. A complimentary video was presented to all in attendance.
Recognition was given to the planning committee and to the class window display honoring the 50-year class who were also the 100th graduating class for THS. The display was made at Howard’s Department Store and chaired by Marsha Chrisman Tucker. Recognition was also given to Shirlene Welch Zipp and Margaret Pfaff Teegarden for the table decorations and a memorial table.
Class members discussed plans for their 55th reunion as well as a 70th birthday party. Carol Moore Reger of Milan led the group in singing the THS Alma Mater and the remainder of the evening was spent visiting.
Many of the class members enjoyed an afternoon tour of the former THS building hosted by Susie Rardon Coon and Maxey.
