Trenton R-9 District Director of Supportive Services Kris Ockenfels presented the program at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Dan Wiebers was the program chairman.
Ockenfels told about districtwide improvements made over the summer, the biggest of which was the repaving of the high school parking lot. That project also included paving other areas that had currently been graveled as well as adding a sidewalk along the Ebbe Sports Complex. There was also work on the middle school parking lot, located on the north side of the building, making the lot a two-way entrance/exit and alleviating traffic congestion before and after school.
Other projects completed included the installation of soundboards in the cafeteria and multi-purpose room at Rissler Elementary School, which also saw new stage curtains installed as well as new steps to the front of the stage. The middle school gymnasium floor was also refurbished, a messge board was placed outside of the high school/middle school complex and the old ISS room was removed from the balcony area of the gym, making more seating space for events as well as creating an area for the band to sit.
During the business meeting, Missouri Day Parade Co-Chairman Steve Taylor gave an update on the parade, which will be held on Oct. 15 and sponsored by the Rotary Club. In an effort to help raise funds to match a grant the club is applying for to purchase handicapped playground equipment for the park system, the committee has decided to charge a $20 fee for entries in addition to the traditional $25 fee for political-related entries. Entries can be made via a link on the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce website. For questions, persons can contact Steve Taylor or Savannah Summers. “The Spirit of America” is the theme for this year’s parade.
Next week’s program chairman is Jeff Crowley. The program will be on the Habitat for Humanity program.
