8-31 Bryant, RonAug 16Ronald James Bryant, an 83-year-old resident of Independence, died on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Independence. A visitation will be at 1 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Bryan was born on July 29, 1933 in Laredo, the son of Floyd West Bryant and Dorothy Gallatin Bryant. He grew up with his older brother, Bill, in the vicinity of the nearby farming community and graduated from Galt High School in 1951. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
He married Mary Lee Huffine, his high school sweetheart, and relocated to Independence upon obtaining employment at Allis-Chalmers. He was a loving husband and proud father of three children. He inspired strong character in his children and loyalty to family. He was involved in the community as a Boy Scout leader for his sons in Troop 229 at First Christian Church. He coached his sons’ basketball teams, and served as a deacon in the church. One of his biggest accomplishments was designing and building his family home where he and his wife resided for over 50 years. Ron enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, creative silversmith work, and traveling with his young family. Upon retirement from Allis-Chalmers, he and Mary Lee continued to travel the country.
Ron will be missed for his outgoing personality, generous heart and strong spirit.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Bryant and his wife, Betty and David Bryant; a daughter, Debbie Bryant; a brother, Bill Bryant; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Bartow and Dee Huffine; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee.
