THS Golfers Top Chillicothe, Putnam County On The Road

Aug 25, 2016 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School girls golf team was in action for the third day in a row on Wednesday, picking up wins in a triangular with Chillicothe and Putnam County at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe.
Trenton carded a team score of 205, besting both Chillicothe (212) and Putnam (245). The two wins moved the Lady Bulldogs to 3-1 in head-to-head competition this season.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Werthen Gass, who claimed medalist honors at the dual with a score of 46. The score was three strokes better than her teammate, Kaitlyn Mounce, who was runner-up with a mark of 49.
“Werthen had another good day and, as a sophomore, is having a great start to her season,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “She was medalist and shot her second-straight 46. She is a very focused golfer and is playing well. I was happy to see Kaitlyn turn in her first sub-50 round of the season. She has really been working hard to improve and it’s paying off.”
Behind that duo, Trenton got a score of 50 from Lana Raymo and Jordain Oshel and Hannah Kennebeck each shot a 60, one of which was used to round out the Lady Bulldogs’ team total.
“Again, as a team, we were right there around 200,” Mullenix said. “But this was on a longer course and our first away meet, so I was happy with our performance. We’ve had three meets in three days and I think the girls were starting to get a little tired.”
In junior varsity action, Trenton got a 60 from Maci Henson and Oakley Madden shot a 65.
The Lady Bulldogs are now off until Monday, when they will travel to the Maryville Tournament, which tees off at 9 a.m.
