Grundy Teams Pick Up Split

The Grundy R-5 High School softball and baseball teams played host to Brashear on Tuesday night in Newtown. Grundy walked off winners in the softball game, topping the visitors 4-3, but dropped the baseball contest afterward, 14-9.
With the softball game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Zoe Littleton drove a single that scored Emma Baxter, giving the Lady Panthers (1-0) the victory. Emily Otto and Emma Novak each had a hit and stole two bases in the win.
Matana Munday navigated seven innings in the circle, allowing four hits and 10 walks while striking out 11.
In the baseball game, Ben Busick led the Panthers with two hits including a two run home run. Blake Foster and Johnathon Stimpson also collected two hits apiece and Carter Searcy went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Andrew Garcia was the losing pitcher.
Grundy’s softball team will be at the Milan Tournament on Saturday, while the baseball team travels to the East Harrison Tournament that same day.
