With rain showers popping up left and right, the Trenton High School girls tennis team was able to score a 6-0 dual victory over Carrollton in the season opener on Tuesday afternoon at the THS tennis courts.
Only singles matches were able to be played as the rain intensified, cancelling doubles matches. Not that the outcome was in question. Trenton swept the visitors, doing so with relative ease in most cases.
Claire Utley scored an 8-6 win at number one, and that was the closest match of the dual. Lauren Dolan, Samantha Mihalovich, Madison Searcy and Codi DeLong took the next four matches without dropping a point, all winning by 8-0 margins. Emma Gilham wrapped up the dual with an 8-1 win at number six.
With the victory, Trenton established a 1-0 record to start the season.
Junior varsity action saw two matches won and, like the varsity, Trenton swept Carrollton in those matches. Alainey Fair and Elle Neal combined for a 6-0 doubles win while Emily Bonta and Latorrie Johnson scored a 6-2 doubles win. All other JV matches were cancelled due to the rain.
Trenton tennis squads will be back on the courts on Thursday when they travel to Savannah for a dual with the Lady Savages. First serves are set for 4 p.m.
