The Trenton Lady Bulldogs softball team was in jamboree action on Monday night at home. The Lady Bulldogs scrimmaged against Putnam County and Schuyler County, both of whom they topped 1-0, as well as Brookfield, which Trenton scrimmaged to a 2-2 draw.
In the opening three-inning scrimmage, Trenton faced off with Putnam County. McKayla Blackburn threw three shutout frames for Trenton, striking out three and allowing just one hit. Salem Croy provided the sessions’ lone run, driving in Ainsley Tolson with an RBI double.
Ashten Whitaker was sharp in the second session against Brookfield, but Trenton’s defense had some issues. Whitaker limited Brookfield to just two hits over three innings, but Trenton’s defense committed three costly errors, allowing the opposition to score twice.
Whitaker would single to lead off the second inning and Tenna Roberts pinch ran, stealing second and third bases before scoring on a wild pitch. Kendall Crowley walked to lead off the third and final inning and Lexi Whitaker would pinch run for her. The younger Whitaker stole second before scoring on a single by Whitley Richman to tie the scrimmage.
In the final match-up of the night, Ainsley Tolson shut out Schuyler County, allowing only one walk while striking out four in three innings.
Trenton struggled to score itself until the third inning, when back-to-back singles by Tolson and Taylor Richman and a walk by Jaylen Neff loaded the bases for Croy, who delivered her second scrimmage-winning hit of the night with an RBI hit that scored Tolson once again.
With the jamboree now out of the way, the Lady Bulldogs will be off until Tuesday, Aug. 23, when they open the season with a Grand River Conference game on the road in Maysville. It will be the first conference game in program history, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
