Tax levies were set by two area school boards during meetings held this week.
Laredo R-7
During its meeting on Wednesday night, the Laredo R-7 Board approved a levy of $5.880 on the $100 assessed valuation. The rate includes the $1.400 voter-approved increase for the district.
Approval was given to the Annual Secretary of the Board Report along with the free and reduced lunch guidelines and special education compliance plan. The board agreed to continue picking up students for school who live less than one mile away. Approval was given to the bus routes as well as continuing to implement the late start schedule for inclement weather.
It was announced that all buses have passed inspection for the school year and that the in-house audit was done on July 25 with no problems found. The board discussed creating a Facebook page for the district and a review of the budget was held.
An executive session for personnel was held and the board offered a contract to Brittni Palmer as the first and second grade teacher. Courtney Deaver was offered a contract as the Parents as Teacher coordinator, who will also be working with the Pleasant View R-6 School District in the same capacity.
Board members toured summer projects that had been completed.
The next regular meeting of the board will be at 6 p..m on Monday, Sept. 12.
Pleasant View R-6
The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education set its levy at $4.7895 on the $100 assessed valuation during its meeting on Tuesday night. This is up .0109 cents over last year, when the levy was $4.7786.
Approval was given to the Annual Secretary of the Board Report as well as the state transportation report, the 2016-17 bus routes, the free and reduced lunch guidelines and the 2016-17 early dismissal class schedule.
Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff gave a report on summer projects, including the refinishing of the bathroom stalls, which have been completed and reinstalled. ThermoSeal of Brookfield will be resealing windows at the front of the school and the new computer lab is being finished.
Among upcoming dates were an open house for the preschool through eighth grade on Monday, Aug. 22, beginning at 6 p.m. parents and students can come to meet teachers, leave school supplies and enjoy a picnic meal. The first day of school will be Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Following an executive session, the board hired Courtney Deaver of Trenton as the Parents as Teacher coordinator and Cyndy Munday of Chillicothe as the speech pathologist. Three students were also approved for inclusion in the preschool program.
The next regular board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
