Ed Rice, an 86-year-old rural Trenton resident, died on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at the Shelburne Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Shelburne Cemetery following military rites.
A scheduled family visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016 at the Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Rice was born on April 1, 1930 in Trenton, the son of Lyman D. and Bertha Eckert Rice. He graduated from Trenton High School, Trenton Junior College and attended the University of Missouri for one year. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was married on Aug. 8, 1952 at the Shelburne Baptist Church to Jesalee Leeper, who preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 1992.
After returning from the Navy he worked for Railway Express in Kansas City. He returned to the Trenton area and had worked at Donaldson’s in Chillicothe until retirement. He farmed throughout his working years and in his retirement.
Survivors include a son, Dean Rice and his wife, Cathy of Hickory; a daughter, Jean Ann Eakin and her husband, Doug of Rossville, KS; a brother, John Rice and his wife, Margaret of Trenton; and four grandchildren, Justin Rice, his wife, Heidi and their children, Ava and James; Joe Rice and his wife, Brielle and their son, Grant; Matthew Eakin and his children, Avery and Maverick; and Katy Eakin.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles D. Rice.
