Swine judging was the highlight of activities on Thursday at the Mercer County Fair in Princeton.
The grand champion and reserve champion boar were shown by McKenzie Taylor of Gallatin. Brylee Williams of Princeton showed the grand champion gilt as well as the grand champion and reserve champion market hog. The reserve champion gilt was shown by Tate Welch of Sheridan. Showmanship honors went to Michael Bertrand of Princeton, senior showmanship and the Easter Memorial Showmanship; and Tate Welch, junior showmanship.
A Super Farmer competition was held on Wednesday night. Robert Phillips and Brittany DeMoss teamed up to capture top honors. The team of Darcee Schwartzkopf and Chandler Wilson was second while third place went to Ethan and Rachael Sticken.
The sheep and goat shows were held this afternoon. The band Madd Hoss Jackson and Sam Banks will perform in a free public concert at 7 o’clock tonight.
On Saturday, the 4-H Foundation breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. A pet show is set for 8:30 a.m., followed by the beef show at 10 a.m. A youth horse workshop is planned for 1:30 p.m. Evening activities begin with an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Cow Chip Bingo is slated for 5:45 p.m. and the youth livestock auction is at 6 p.m. The IAMO tractor pull is slated for 7 p.m.
Events conclude on Sunday with a farmer’s community breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. There will be a cookoff competition from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the lower fairgrounds, with judging and awards to be presented at 5 p.m.
