Bids and summer projects were among items addressed by two area boards of education during meetings on Monday night.
Pleasant View R-6
The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved bids and heard reports during its meeting.
Bids were accepted from Prairie Farms for milk products and People’s Co-Op for diesel fuel during the 2016-17 school year. The faculty handbook was approved and the board set the tax rate levy hearing for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, with the regular board meeting to follow.
Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff gave a report on summer projects, with the library and computer lab having been rewired and painted. Bathroom stalls have been removed and will be refurbished to be reinstalled before the start of school. Floor waxing is also progressing on schedule.
An open house for preschool through eighth grade will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, with the first day of classes on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The Early Childhood Special Education preschool will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 29.
Following a closed session, the board hired Denise Ewing as the school speech pathologist as well as finalized the 2016-17 kindergarten enrollment list.
The next meeting of the board will be on Aug. 9, following the 7 p.m. tax rate hearing.
Princeton
The Princeton R-5 Board of Education took care of several items during its meeting.
The board approved the project to update the window screens at the elementary school, which has been supported by the PTO. New window tint and screens will have a UV protection film added to reduce fading.
The board will be seeking a request for proposals for legal services, due on Monday, Aug. 8 at noon. Bids will also be accepted for bread, milk and fuel products, due on Aug. 1.
Approval was given to artwork for the basketball court logo to be painted the first week in August. Retired teachers Danny and Marsha Shew and current art teacher Becci Shew will be volunteering their time to do the work. It will include a block letter “P” with a design of the Tiger mascot included.
The board was told the HVAC unit at the Stacy Multipurpose Center needs to be replaced. The unit supplies the locker room, foyer, offices and storage area. The board will be reviewing a proposal at an upcoming meeting.
The board reviewed a draft of a new lease agreement for use of the Stacy Center, which is being updated. The district will be implementing swimming into the curriculum for the 2016-17 school year.
The board received an update for the playground equipment, including an announcement that the PTO has made a $25,000 donation to add supplemental equipment to the playground as well as complete the overall project. Drainage work in the area is to be started before the end of July with concrete to be completed in early August. Installation of the playground equipment is anticipated the third week of August with the start of classes to be on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
The district will be launching a new website in the upcoming weeks. The board also set Monday, Aug. 8 at 5:45 p.m. for the annual tax rate levy hearing, which will be held in the high school library. It was announced the audit of records for the 2015-16 school year will take place on Aug. 2.
Following an executive session for personnel, the board accepted the resignation of paraprofessional Lisa McClain and hired Scott Ussery as the junior high football coach and Kevin Knutson as custodian.
