Members of the Trenton High School football and basketball cheer squads attended the UCA cheerleading camp June 20-23 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
This was the first year the squad attended a stunt and tumble-specific camp and although it was faster-paced and more strenuous, the squad really enjoyed the challenge and is looking forward to performing some eyecatching new stunts this year.
There were 166 participants in the camp and 10 squads from throughout the state. While there, the cheerleaders earned a superior (highest) ribbon for the extreme routine dance. This dance had two stunt incorporations, jumping, and tumbling.
The group also received the superior squad award and earned third place overall for their extreme routine.
Out of 166 girls in attendance, 16 girls were chosen for the All-American cheerleader award. They had to try out in front of a panel of judges by performing a cheer, a dance and a toe touch.
Four Trenton cheerleaders were chosen for this award, including senior Mason Hooyman and juniors Kayley Griffin, Thelma Guerrero and Abbie Shuler.
Also attending the camp representing THS were Stacy Coplen, Shawna Coplen, Brandi Eaton, Lana Raymo, McKenna Cox, Grace Eaton, Cassidy Trump, Karli Crawford, Sarah Jordan, Bailey Bankson, Whitley Richman, Jaylen Neff and Emma Norris.
