Trenton Has New Fireman
Jacob Hickman is a native of Trenton and graduated from Trenton High School in 2008. He has served as a reserve firefighter with the TFD since 2011 and has been a volunteer with the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District since 2010.
Hickman is CPR certified and holds certifications in basic firefighting, farm machinery resource, outdoor search and rescue and grain bin engulfment rescue. He will be attending training this winter to earn certification in hazardous materials operation and Firefighter II and has also expressed interest in earning certifications in other resource courses and fire investigation.
Hickman fills an open firefighter position on A Shift and begins his duties on Wednesday. The opening was the result of Firefighter Derek Hert moving to the position of Shift C supervisor after Lt. Mike Moore accepted a position in south Missouri.
Hickman was chosen from an applicant testing pool performed annually. There were five applicants who were required to score above 70 percent on a general education cognitive example, complete a physical agility course in a given amount of time and complete an oral interview conducted by officers within the department.
