Ivan D. “Dusty” Hostetler, a 93-year-old resident of Enid, OK, died on Monday, May 16 2016 in Enid.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Billings, OK. Burial was in the Billings Union Cemetery.
Mr. Hostetler as born on March 1, 1923 in Trenton, the son of Roy and Francis Colville Hostetler. He attended grade school at Tindall and graduated in 1942 from Trenton High School. While in school he was active in sports and was a member of the FFA. After graduation, he received a scholarship to Drake University, but chose to fight for his country instead.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 12, 1943 and was attached to the 551st Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion. He served in the northern Solomon Islands and the southern Philippines, earning the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Bronze Star Medal. He was honorably discharged at Ft. Leavenworth, KS after having arrived back in the United States on Dec. 23, 1945.
He was married on March 15, 1947 to Bertha L. Collins of Garber. They made their home east of Billings, where he was a farmer and rancher for almost 70 years. He was active with the Billings Independent Basketball Team and was a member of the American Legion as well as a member of the First  Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the home; his children, Becky Hostetler of Woodward and Brady Hostetler and his wife, Mendy of Billings; grandchildren Karli Cline and her husband, Tyler of Perry, OK and Kellan Hostetler of Billings; and a special family member, Ernie Martinez of Grand Prairie, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas.
