Spickard Man Sentenced

A Spickard man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after being sentenced on Monday in the U.S. District Court in St. Joseph.
Wendell Tharp was sentenced on Monday and, pursuitant to a plea agreement, will serve his time without parole. In addition, he will have four years of supervised release, $300 in special assessments and a money judgement related to the level of the defendant’s drug distribution responsibility.
Tharp pleaded guilty on Nov. 30, 2015 to charges involving the distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit money laundering and being a drug user in possession of a firearm. He was indicted on the charges by a grand jury in 2014 as the result of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office, NITRO drug enforcement officials, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other law enforcement officials. The incidents alleged in the indictment occurred between Jan. 1, 2009 and May 20, 2014.
