Gilbert P. Vandevender, a 91-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton, with Rev. Doug Franklin officiating.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Vandevender was born Jan. 10, 1925 in Spickard, the son of James Henry and Mary Esther Young Vandevender. He graduated from Spickard High School in 1944. He was a retired farmer, living in the Spickard community before moving to Trenton.
He was married on Aug. 16, 1952 at Spickard to Nellie Pauline Vandevender, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by one daughter, Diana Crook of Trenton; one son, Donnie Vandevender of Trenton, six grandchildren, Nathan Vandevender, Paul Vandevender and his wife, Amanda, Stephanie Drake and her husband Dale, Melinda Crook, Rachael Crook and Rebecca Crook; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard D. Vandevender; four sisters, Gladys Myers, Nadine Lewis, Eula Mae Bolton and Helda Lynch; and five brothers, Forrest Vandevender, Clifford Vandevender, Wayne Vandevender, Clarence Vandevender and Delbert Vandevender.
Memorials are suggested to the North Evans Cemetery and they may be left at the funeral home.
